Green economics with Scotch College

It has been a busy time at Forktree!

Last week saw Year 6 students from Scotch College take part in a variety of important tasks at Forktree to complement their Term 4 focus on “Our Economic World”.

As part of their unit of study, the students have been considering the question, “What impact do consumer decisions have on the broader community and the environment?” Their day at The Forktree Project allowed them to consider the positive impact on the broader community and environment of recycling and repurposing materials - experiential, hands-on learning through purposeful action.

Activities included circular economy tasks such as cleaning and sorting salvaged bricks and washing pre-used potting tubes for use in the nursery, and “green”, plant-based tasks including separating out bulbs ready for planting, filling the tubes with potting mix and planting seeds in the newly cleaned and filled tubes. A great head start for the Forktree nursery as it starts to get seedling stock ready for winter 2022 - fantastic work, Scotch!

Thank you to all the budding Yr 6 economists and environmentalists from Scotch for their contribution to the rewilding work of The Forktree Project, and for their good company and good cheer. We look forward to welcoming you back to Forktree again soon.
