Nursery update

It has been an incredibly busy few months in the Forktree nursery!

A year ago we began propagating our own seedlings in preparation for the 2021 planting season. We were delighted that we grew about 3,500 native trees, shrubs and grasses for use on the Forktree site, all of which were duly planted last winter.

Once those seedlings were in the ground, it was time to upscale production! More potting tables were built out of recycled pallets (thank you, Ralph and Jake L.) and painted (thank you, Tatachilla Year 9s), the reticulation system was extended, a work shelter was built (thank you, Jake T.) … and since October 16,000 natives have been successfully propagated, ready for this coming winter’s planting season, both at Forktree and elsewhere.

A huge thank you goes to Jake Thornhill, Forktree’s nursery manager (below), for his expertise, energy and tireless enthusiasm propagating seedlings and teaching others to do the same - sowing seeds in more ways than one.

The Forktree nursery - looking good!
