Weather wall

Phase 3 of the preparation of the irrigated seed production beds in the Rare Seed Orchard: the installation of effective and affordable wind protection in the form of semi-rigid plastic sheeting around the beds. This is to protect the grasses that will be growing in the beds and, crucially, to prevent wind dispersal of the seed that the grasses will produce.

Although wind dispersal is very much part of nature’s design, we need to protect against it in the seed orchard: we want to collect the seed for propagation in the nursery so that we can contribute to the re-establishment of native grasses across the region.

And protection from the wind is certainly needed - it can be like Wuthering Heights up here at The Forktree Project.
