The wonders of wallaby grass

‘Tis the season… for native grass seed harvesting at The Forktree Project.

Much excitement here as we collect seed from an area of rytidosperma (wallaby grass) planted in 2022 by numerous volunteers and school groups.

The more native grasses we plant, the better for the wider ecosystem and the safer for us - native grasses like rytidosperma have a fuel load of 2-5 tonnes per hectare compared to 10-25 tonnes of fuel load for introduced grasses.
