Seed orchard set up

Planting season for this year may be drawing to a close but there are plenty of other tasks to be done at The Forktree Project.

The next one is a big one: the establishment of a rare seed orchard for the growing, seed harvesting and protection of endangered native plant species.

And so to work…

Step One: fence the 2ha area off with 1.8m high roo-proof fencing, using recycled old posts salvaged on site where possible. Tick.

Step Two: plant a 6-deep windbreak, comprising a variety of native trees and shrubs including bursarias, leptospermums, blackwoods, hakeas and banksias, along side the fenceline. Tick.

That’s the easy part… But we are very excited about this next phase of the project. Watch this space.
