Power planting with Conservation Volunteers Australia
What an amazing weekend of planting with Conservation Volunteers Australia (CVA) this last weekend! A remarkable 2,000 natives - a mix of sheoaks, eucalypts, shrubs and native grasses - were planted over the course of three days with a view to creating habitat for the endangered glossy black cockatoo.
This incredible planting rate was made possible by efficient prep work by CVA and The Forktree Project, with thorough weeding of the area, pre-digging of all holes with an auger, and the positioning of stakes, so that volunteers could power through the planting at speed.
It worked! Many thanks to Mel Crouch from CVA for coordinating the volunteers. Fingers crossed the glossy blacks will appreciate the huge effort made by all… in due course!
Below: getting the job done - creating a sheoak-rich habitat one plant at a time, to the tune of 2,000 saplings. Amazing!
