Grass seed harvest
An exciting moment at The Forktree Project this week as we harvest our first crop of Rytidosperma caespitosum seed (wallaby grass) from the production beds in the Forktree Seed Orchard, only two months after the grasses were planted.
In these managed production beds, the grasses should produce three or more crops a year (and, in time, each plant will be big and dense), meaning we will be able to harvest significant quantities of seed for propagating and direct seeding, with a view to restoring native grasses as part of the local biodiverse ecosystem.
From little things big things grow.
