gathering seed

Today the Forktree seed nursery came a step closer with the harvesting of seed from native trees and bushes on the nearby property of fellow tree planter Paul Green. Forty years of steady revegetation by Paul has resulted in a treasure trove of native biodiversity on his land - only a kilometre away from Forktree.

This is a significant bonus as it means that all our new saplings will have a local provenance, just as nature intended.

Many thanks to Paul for generously inviting us to harvest seed, and to seed expert Jake Thornhill for his assistance and enthusiasm for the task.

Next step is the propagation of our harvested seed (pappus grass, native daisy, drooping sheoak, sticky hop bush and native apricot). Watch this space!
