excavators,spades and rakes

A momentous day on Friday - the seed nursery pad is level!

No small task: rubbly dirt was moved from the rubble dump area to the seed nursery and was used as infill material on top of the 60 cubic metres of rubble that has been painstakingly placed over the last few months in the space behind the gabion wall baskets (themselves filled with 42 cubic metres of rubble sourced on site) to create the pad. Phew!

Another satisfying circular economy story - finding a way to reuse the building waste on site saves it making its way to landfill. And clearing and scraping another section of the rubble dump site cleans it up and gets it a step closer to being ready to become a seed orchard (more on that soon...). A win-win, we say. And it looks pretty good too - we hope you agree.

Many thanks to Simon for his excavating expertise and to volunteers Adam, Roy and Genie for the hours of digging and raking. Amazing effort; amazing teamwork.
