if only it were just tree planting… Putting a sapling in the ground is the best bit, but like with all projects a huge percentage of time at Forktree is spent on preparation. Today that means weeding…

The planting area near the shed was the most significantly impacted with rubble and building waste, and while all of that refuse has been cleared, the weeds are impressive. They need to be cleared before the saplings can be planted and thrive without competition from these unwelcome gatecrashers.

Mustard seed. Wire weed. Milk thistle. It’s unglamorous, prickly work, but essential. Best to put on a brave face and get stuck in.
