A job well done

Yesterday saw another remarkable day’s work at The Forktree Project. The task this time: building steps for access to the seed nursery pad, all constructed out of old recycled timber salvaged on site. Great once again to be putting perfectly good materials to use rather than sending them to landfill.

The photos below tell the story: 1) Getting angles right. 2) Cutting main diagonals. 3) Steepness looks good. 4) Cutting in steps. 5) Using the profile of the first upright as a guide for the second one. The many uses of a chainsaw! 6) Sealant to prevent damp. 7) Frame treated, sealed and ready to use. 8) Posts to support the diagonals so that the weight isn’t resting on the gabion baskets. 9) Making sure it’s all level. 10) Steps - the easy bit! 11) A beautiful thing. 12) Huge thanks to Jake and Ralph for a job well done!
