PERFECTING THE PROTOTYPE

Despite the newly installed, gold-standard fencing, the quest continues at Forktree for the best way to protect each and every vulnerable young eucalypt from any over-zealous, hungry (or greedy) kangaroo that manages to find its way in. We’re not leaving anything to chance.

The latest design involves a mesh of tie-wire woven across the top of the corflute. (Prototype A, the duct tape cross, bought us time but was never going to last long enough.) The hope is that even the most determined roos will find wire more of a deterrent and the pink gum saplings can put down roots and establish themselves in peace.

Another beautiful day at Forktree today, in the company of a merry band of volunteers getting blackwoods, prickly moses, kangaroo thorns, golden wattles and pink gums (duly protected by Prototype B) into the ground. Many thanks to them all.
